Misfits FC follows a group of friends playing for an average football club on the south coast of England. The Hodgson Hornets are not used to winning, but that’s set to change when a new coach brings with her enthusiasm, positivity and a plan for success. The series explores themes of friendship, rivalry, jealousy, and wider societal issues of gender equality, diversity in sport, and immigration.
I’ve had amazing support over the four years that Misfits FC has been in development. Here are just some of the contributors that deserve a mention:
Awesome Illustrators: Juliane, Audrey and Irene came to the project when they were just 11 years old. They were my first supporters - keeping me motivated through regular chats and by bringing the characters to life.
Beta Readers: I’ve been lucky to have tonnes of children and adults read the manuscript and provide feedback at different stages of the project. Those include: Roberta, Luca, Simone, Jenson, Mary, Laura, Ane, Irene, Juliane, Audrey, Isaiah, Aoife, Diyar, Ruby, Pierre, Angelika, Jodi and Nate. Each one of you have supplied words and ideas that are in the story today.
Zeitgeist Literary Agency: I’m super excited to have recently teamed up with Thomasin Chinnery, at Zeitgeist, to help refine and promote Misfits FC. The manuscript is ready and together we are looking for the right publisher to bring Misfits FC to life
Writing groups: I joined the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) at the beginning of my writing journey and this wonderful group have introduced me, trained me and accepted me as one of their own. London Writers’ Salon (LWS) enabled me to write daily with an international tribe of authors without leaving my home, my critique group had to suffer the early drafts and never faulted in giving me wise feedback and enthusiastic motivation throughout the process , Rebel Book Club (RBC) inspired me through the books we read, the people I met, and the whole vibe of what they’re doing over there, and WriteMentor gave me feedback at a crucial point in the manuscript development. Thank you each and every one of you.
